nama mama mini workshops & refreshers offer a flexible way to connect to the benefits of hypnobirthing.
if you’re unable to commit to a full course. perhaps you are looking for a refresher for a 2nd or 3rd birth, you’re in the later weeks of your pregnancy, or attending an antenatal class but would like to benefit from the support that hypnobirthing can bring.

what is hypnobirthing?
hypnobirthing empowers you with a true knowledge of the physiological process of birth & through a very simple program of deep relaxation and fear release techniques, hypnobirthing can help you to learn to trust your body’s ability to bring your baby into the world with calm & confidence.
are you going to hypnotize me!?
the original hypnobirthing programme developed by marie mongan in the 1960's was created by combining antenatal knowledge, an understanding of the mind, body connection, together with a basis of hypnotherapy techniques in order to help us to control unwanted physical reactions in our body during labour, which come from a place of fear. all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, i will definitely not be "hypnotising" you! but i will guide you through gentle relaxations & visualisations to affect real, powerful change of your associations for birth. i am fortunate to have trained originally with the hypnobirthing institute, under the philosophies of marie mongan, and so have gained a thorough understanding & ability in the hypnotherapy theories within hypnobirthing.
what can my partner gain from hypnobirthing?
your birth partner has got to have your back! and hypnobirthing can be really empowering for that. with the knowledge of birth and practical techniques of massage, rebozo & relaxation that we’ll cover, they will become an active part of the birthing process, helping you to stay calm and focused on your birth.
nama mama hypnobirthing classes include your birth partner in a positive and active way. the nama mama birth journal also includes a section for the birth partner with a practical guide, tips & prompts and positive affirmations worded specifically to help build confidence & trust in their supporting role.
does hypnobirthing mean i can’t have an epidural?
again, no! this is a really common misconception. hypnobirthing is inclusive of all birth choices, within a nama mama class you will learn lots of different ways that you can stimulate natural pain relief within your own body, and develop real coping techniques to help you deal with the intensity you may feel during birth, but i also talk about choice i also provide you with a breakdown of options for medication, so that you can make an informed decision for your care.
can hypnobirthing really help?
you may feel drawn to hypnobirthing with a sense that you want to feel in control of your own birthing journey. perhaps you have a sense of fear around your upcoming birth, or you may have experienced trauma with a previous birth and know that you do not want to repeat that experience.
hypnobirthing will teach you the skills to enable you to achieve a gentle, calm and confident birth, including simple breathing, relaxation and visualisation techniques which can be practiced throughout your pregnancy to become second nature, so that on the day of your baby’s birth, your natural instincts can be trusted to bring your baby into the world with confidence and ease.
is hypnobirthing just for home births & water births?
no! most definitely not - hypnobirth is birth!
it really is for everyone, & all birth choices. whether you have chosen to birth in a hospital, at a birthing centre, or at home. if you are planning a caesarean birth or are facing induction, there is so much you can learn to make your experience a positive experience, which is individual for you.
do i need to attend sessions with a birth partner?
not everyone who has a baby is in a relationship. relationships can be complicated! at nama mama i really look to be inclusive for you as an individual.
i would love to support you with or without a birth partner present. you can certainly attend a class or workshop by yourself. it's also worth knowing that your birth partner doesn't necessarily have to be your life partner. if you have a trusted family member or friend who you would like to come with you, that's totally your choice.
can hypnobirthing help me to prepare for caesarean birth?
most definitely. I don’t subscribe to promoting vaginal birth as the ultimate goal for a positive birth experience & am able to support you in preparing for a planned, gentle caesarean birth.
we will also look at what choices you have if you may consent to an un-planned caesarean birth, helping you to feel prepared for whatever turn your birth journey may take.
