why sliding scale?
in january 2025 i made the decision to increase the prices for the sessions & treatments that i offer at nama mama. this has been a long time coming & not an easy decision for me, since my prices have remained the same for the past 5 years.
just like everyone in the uk, i have certainly felt the affects of increased cost of living, and yet i have felt really conflicted about raising the cost of my own services. pregnancy, birth, menstruation & menopause are a part of life, each of us deserve to have our rights of passage met with care, respect, guidance and to have them honoured. it has always been a strong value that what i offer should be accessible and not elitist.
i have personally appreciate the sliding scale for payments on services i have accessed over the years & so i have been researching how i can implement this within my own small business model.
here below you will see the “green bottle” sliding scale template, which outlines where each individual can find themselves, within the financial tiers, in order to choose a payment amount which reflects their personal privilege or economic situation, whilst maintaining respect of the value to the services on offer.
when i think of the wombs i have touch & the people i have shared time with through my work over the years, i am proud of the diversity of the people who have connected with my offerings, &, whilst i must raise my pricing, it is vital for me to maintain a point of access for people across all class and/or economic backgrounds. i feel that the sliding scale offers me an approach to do that whilst reflecting personal value to my time and the investments i have made to gain the skills & knowledge that i pour into my offerings.
so, what am i asking you to pay?!
if you have any questions about costs or making payment for services, please always reach out to me, i’m really happy to talk it through - emma@namamama.uk
i will never ask for any verification of financial situations, and the relationship i am offering to my clients is one of reciprocal trust, respect & accountability. please take a look at the tier descriptions & reflect honestly where you find yourself on the tiers of experience and finances.
tier 3 - the highest price scale
please pay this amount if you have stable, financial security, accessing my services would be considered as part of your regular, monthly expenditure, perhaps alongside other personal services that you are able to choose to access. this price reflects the cost that i would choose to price my services at, without a sliding scale. when choosing this price tier enables me to be able to offer a lower cost to those who cannot afford to meet the price comfortably & you will contribute to the reciprocity pot that allows me to give back to global community projects, listed below.
tier 2 - the mid price scale
please pay this amount if you have some expendable monthly income, but that accessing my services may mean you have to save up to afford to do so, or make a compromise to your monthly finances, without being detrimental to your basic needs. it means that you fall somewhere between tier 3 and tier 1, but if you do benefit from having financial support from family, friends or employer benefits, please consider reaching out to those resources before choosing the sliding scale.
tier 1 - the lowest price scale
please pay this amount if the reality of your economic situation prevents you from accessing my services at the higher price tiers. if you are just meeting your basic living costs from month to month and do not have savings or expendable income, but you need the support of my services. if this tier feels inaccessible for you, please contact me to talk through options for payment plans.
“the highest price reflects the cost that i would choose to price my services at without a sliding scale - when people choose to pay the tier 3 price it means i can offer a sliding scale, this is a beautiful way to model mutual care within our community”
reciprocity pot
“reciprocity; the practice of exchange with others for mutual benefit, especially where privilege is granted”
for each of my offerings i make a yearly contribution to relevant charities or organisations to support their work & acknowledge the privilege in the work that i do.
